Young Boys stunned Manchester United in Champions League opener

In the Champions League opening match Switzerland’s Young Boys team stunned everyone by defeating Manchester United adorned with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba. In the final moments of the football match for the Young Boys, Jordan Siebatcheu turned the ball around by scoring a goal. 

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal in the Champions League after 12 years for his old club Manchester United, but he could not win his team playing with 10 players. Ronaldo, who took the field for United in the match played at the Young Boys’ home in Bern, made a strong start. In the 13th minute of the match, Bruno Fernandez’s long-distance pass from outside the box near the goal post, Ronaldo opened the account for United in the match with a brilliant goal and made the score 1-0. This goal became the 135th goal of Ronaldo’s career in the Champions League.

United then suffered a setback and in the 35th minute, their player Aaron Bissaka pressed Young Boys player Christopher Martins Pereira’s leg and was given a straight red card for it. After this, in the second half too, the players of Young Boys took an aggressive approach and started putting pressure on United with 10 players. The result was that in the 66th minute, Moumi Ngamaleu scored a brilliant goal for the Young Boys to level the score 1-1.

Soon after, United made two major changes and in the 72nd minute, Ronaldo was replaced by Jesse Lingard, while Bruno was replaced by Matic. However, the Young Boys had the upper hand over the 10-man United, as Jordan Siebatcheu scored the second goal in the last minute (90+5 minutes) of the match, dodging goalkeeper David de Gea to give the team a 2–1 win. In the other match, Sevilla played a 1-1 draw with Salsberg.

With this game, Ronaldo played the 177th match in the Champions League and equaled the record of Iker Casillas for playing the most matches in this league. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal for United in the first match of the Champions League 2021-22 season, but he could not win.
