Wendell’s agreement was set to expire next year but he agreed on a one-year extension. In 2014 the 26-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said, “Wendell has grown into a big force in our squad over his six years in Leverkusen. As a full-back, he has a profound value on the field and always interacts incredibly deeply with the team and the club as a whole.”
“Bayer 04 is a good club for Wendell. He’s had some interesting offers in the past but has always remained loyal to us. We’re delighted that we can continue to rely on him.” added managing director Rudi Völler.
For ‘Die Werkself’ Wendell made 27 appearances this season.
