Bruno Fernandes’s value may have degraded to as low as £18 m following his transfer to Manchester United claimed Frederico Varandas, Sporting Lisbon president

The player had a promising start to life at the club with scoring three goals and four assists in nine outings in all competitions.

He terminated a delighted transfer saga when he joined the Red Devils in a £57 m January deal.

However, the players’ value has been slashed down due to the Coronavirus pandemic and Varandas assumes that Sporting may only get around  €20 m (£17.7 m) for Fernandes if it is sold now.

As in February, he won the Premier League Player of the Month award so Fernandes has yet to taste defeat in the United Shirt.

Varandas told RTP “The crisis caused by Covid-19 harms the European football industry in general, but, of all countries, Portugal is the most affected, because 50% of revenues come from the sale of players,”.

“Bruno Fernandes, for example? He was sold for €65m in January. Today, what would he be worth? Maybe €20m? €30m? Nobody knows.”
