UEFA Nations League: England triumphed against Belgium in a difficult match

Marcus Rashford scored the penalty and a successful strike from Mason Mount helping England come from a goal down at Wembley on Sunday to defeat top-ranked Belgium 2-1 and rise above them in their UEFA Nations League group.

In the 16th minute, Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot after being taken down by a reckless lunge from England’s Eric Dier. It was the 13th goal for the Inter Milan striker in his last 11 matches for his country.

With Yannick Carrasco and Kevin de Bruyne finding space and time to make seven shots on goal to England’s two in the first half, the Belgians pushed forward.

But Thomas Meunier Belgium clumsily pulled Captain Jordan Henderson to concede a penalty when England grabbed a corner late in the half. Rashford scored from the spot to achieve his 11th goal.

In the second half, England kept up the tempo and got their reward in the 64th minute through Mount with a shot that took a strong deflection off Belgian defender Toby 

England held its shape and ran down the clock to record a victory in the Nations League group with seven points to Belgium’s six, despite Belgium consistently pressing on.

England – Belgium 2–1
