Ten Hag criticizes Manchester United’s purchases. Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has questioned the team’s transfer policy in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson‘s resignation as head coach. Ten Hag, who is guiding the Red Devils through a revival, has criticized the club’s recent hiring practices. In the twenty-first century, Manchester United has spent more than £2 billion on acquisitions. The hefty expenditure, nevertheless, has not translated to success on the field, and numerous high-profile acquisitions have recently failed at the club.

Only three championships have been won by United since Fergie’s final campaign in charge of the team: the FA Cup in 2016, the Europa League, and the League Cup in 2017. Ten Hag went into great detail in an interview with the Dutch publication Voetbal International regarding the situation the club was in before his arrival.

Ten Hag said: “Manchester United didn’t exactly exude dread last season. No spirit was present. The squad lacked any sense of teamwork. There was very little mental toughness. As an outsider, I observed that in my initial weeks at the club as well. I examined the club’s culture. How did Manchester United become so successful, I inquired. And Sir Alex Ferguson was the focus for me.

Ten Hag added: “His teams excelled in cohesion, collectivity, and spirit. You simply couldn’t overcome them. When we acquire players, we evaluate their caliber and technical proficiency. However, you need also to consider their mental fitness and resilience, and we had to restore those. Average has been the norm for most purchases, and at United, the average is not good enough. The United jersey is heavy. Only real personalities who excel under intense pressure are allowed to perform here.”

United’s first two Premier League games were losses, which was a terrible start for Ten Hag’s managerial tenure there. They have now significantly improved, and everyone can see Ten Hag’s influence on the side. They have won five straight games in all competitions right now.

United has made wise additions under Ten Hag, and most of them have performed admirably thus far this season. Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Christian Eriksen, for example, have all excelled and improved the caliber of the team.

Ten Hag commented on Manchester United’s summer recruitment activities by saying, “We needed personalities. Casemiro’s acquisition was crucial for this reason. We now have a second player with title-winning experience in addition to Raphael Varane. While Christian Eriksen is a technical victor and a lovely person, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, and Antony are all warriors. The best is what we seek.

On Friday night, Manchester United defeated Everton 3-1 to advance to the FA Cup’s fourth round. The Red Devils are now level on points with Newcastle United, who hold the third spot in the Premier League standings due to their superior goal differential. However, Ten Hag’s team currently leads the Magpies by one game.
