As Sinisa Mihajlovic continues to manage the Italian club despite being treated with cancer, Bologna rewarded Serbian coach Sinisa with a one-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Before the term commenced the 51-year-old was diagnosed with acute leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant

“Bologna FC 1909 announce that they have reached an agreement with Sinisa Mihajlovic to extend his contract until 30 June 2023,” the club said in a statement.

Mihajlovic divided his time between the hospital and the pitch, and this week said felt “stronger than before”.

Helping the team pull off a spectacular top-flight survival, the former international player from Yugoslavia took over from Filippo Inzaghi in January 2019.

The team was 18th with just two wins from 21 games when the coach arrived from former Serbia, AC Milan, Sampdoria, and Torino, bringing them to a 10th place finish.

He was awarded a contract until June 2022, as a result.

This season Bologna is 10th in Series A and on June 22 in nearly four months Juventus host their first match.
