Simon Jordan on Emiliano Martinez said he cheated during penalty. In the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, Emiliano Martinez was Argentina’s penalty shootout hero. Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Argentina, has come under fire for his actions during the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup final penalty shootout victory over France, according to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan. In Lusail, Qatar, on Sunday, Argentina won 4-2 on penalties to win their third FIFA World Cup crown (December 18).

While Kylian Mbappe produced a stunning hat-trick in the last minutes to send the game into a dramatic penalty shootout, Lionel Messi scored a brace and Angel Di Maria netted once during regulation time. Martinez, 30, gained notoriety for his heroics in the shootout when he stopped Kingsley Coman, despite the uproar his antics have generated. He was spotted throwing the ball away before Aurelien Tchouameni’s penalty kick to disrupt the midfielder’s focus. In the end, his theatrics were successful because the Real Madrid star’s shot was wide.

Jordan criticized Martinez for his penalty shootout antics and called them “cheating” in an interview with talkSPORT. He stated: “Martinez’s actions, including gripping the ball and throwing it in the opposite direction, appear to be cheating. The goalkeeper’s actions, in my opinion, were not sportsmanlike and were not in keeping with the rules of the game.” Jordan said, “For a referee to enable the goalkeeper to control the situation, to increase the pressure, to enhance it, I think was one of his faults at that moment in time,” as he discussed the specific occurrence.

Martinez won the Golden Glove trophy for his crucial efforts to Argentina’s victory, with three shutouts in seven 2022 FIFA World Cup games. In addition to his exploits in the penalty shootout during the high-stakes summit match, the Aston Villa player also made a spectacular save late on to save Randal Kolo Muani from scoring. Martinez, on the other hand, is questionable for Monday’s home Premier League matchup between Aston Villa and Liverpool (December 26). In 16 club appearances this season, he has four clean sheets to his name.
