Former Rossoneri coach Fabio Capello spoke about AC Milan’s current situation and hopes to bring home the Scudetto.
Last season, Rossoneri led the Serie A table for over 20 rounds but could never shake off Inter, who ended up surging in front as Milan continued to slip up. This time around, Milan clung to the top spot for longer and with eight games left, there was a belief that they could go on and win it.
“The favourite? None, at the moment, four teams are fighting with a 25 per cent chance of winning,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
On Allegri’s Juve:
“Allegri is an intelligent man and lets the team play as best. I don’t understand all these criticisms because they win 1-0 a lot.”
“Another exaggeration. I don’t see a downed team. Inter will recover, but much will depend on Sunday’s match against Juve. A draw would be a defeat for both of them, so I think the coaches will play it with their weapons.
“Juve being behind in the standings, will have to risk more, but not even Inter can afford a draw. Distances are minimal. And in the Scudetto fight, let’s not forget Napoli, an excellent team: they have grown a lot and have a coach who knows where to take them.”
On the coach best suited for the sprint:
“I would say Allegri: part of the run-up since he is behind and has less weight on his shoulders. Others carry the weight on the back.”
“First of all, he has the advantage of being light-hearted. This is the key. Milan is a team that conveys joy and is led by a coach doing an excellent job.
“But like all young groups, it can have ups and downs. So watch out for the calendar, which is not easy.
“Milan are exalted in the big matches. Logical for a youth-based team.
“Every coach knows that there is little to say when the matches are essential: the motivations come by themselves.
“But then you have to keep your concentration always. It’s like all teams where there are many young players.
“The joy of the game is their strong point. But among the four in the fight, they seem the most enigmatic.”
On the balance of the league:
“At the international level, we are not there. Only Atalanta – who are not among the four in the fight for the Scudetto – proved to be competitive.
“We have to change the game’s pace: we are fast slowly for now, and there is no need.
“You have to take the German model, retrieve the ball and play it immediately forward. So the qualities to do this are there.”
