Torino held on a 1-1 draw with Venezia after Koffi Djidji was sent off, and Mattia Aramu of Venezia canceled out Josip Brekalo’s opener from the penalty spot. Venezia concluded Serie A Week 6 by hosting Torino at the Stadio Penzo on Monday night.
The hosts got off to a good start when David Okereke came close to scoring the first goal, and Paolo Zanetti’s men kept pushing for it. Domen Crnigoj’s header went just over the crossbar after 15 minutes of the football match and the Granata responded with an effort from Antonio Sanabria.
After 24 minutes, Johnsen thought he had put the hosts ahead, but VAR ruled the Venezia forward’s goal offside. Loanee from Chelsea, Ethan Ampadu made his Venezia debut after 38 minutes, replacing Antonio Vacca. Karol Linetty tested Niki Maepaa in the Venezia goal before the second half, but neither side was able to break the deadlock.
The attacking midfielder made no mistakes and gave the visitors the lead after 56 minutes. After taking the lead, Torino was in control but when Koffi Djidji went through Okereke from behind, referee Lorenzo Maggioni had no choice but to dismiss the Granata defender and award the home side a penalty.
Torino eventually played with 10 men for 21 minutes with Maggioni adding eight minutes of stoppages and big chances at both ends before the final whistle.
