SC East Bengal announced that they have agreed to terminate Robbie Fowler’s contract as head coach just two months before the start of the Indian Super League (ISL) season. The Reds and Golds outfit has appointed former Real Madrid reserve manager Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz as the new head coach of the club for the upcoming Indian Super League 2021-22 season after signing goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya on football transfer.
The Kolkata giants took to Twitter to announce the departure of Robbie Fowler and his coaching staff. “SC East Bengal can confirm that the club has agreed with Robbie Fowler on the mutual termination of the head coach’s contract. We wish Robbie the best of luck in his future endeavors and look forward to his continued partnership with Shree Cement Limited,” the club wrote.
The club also mentioned in their statement, “alongside his assistant, Tony Grant, he took charge of the team in a very challenging period of transition and managed to overcome significant odds to bring the fans some moments of joy in the club’s first-ever season in the Indian Super League.”
Under the tutelage of the former Liverpool striker, the Red and Gold Brigade finished in ninth place last season, with only three wins under their belt. Meanwhile, former Real Madrid Castilla coach Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz has been named the new head coach. The Spanish coach is on the ropes for the 2021-22 Indian Super League season. The club confirmed the transfer news on Twitter, “SC East Bengal is proud to welcome Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz, former coach of Real Madrid Castilla, as the new head coach.”
