Sadio Mane will not play 2022 World Cup.has been ruled out of the World Cup in Qatar due to an injury sustained prior to the competition, according to Senegal. Mane has not recovered from an injury in time to play for Senegal at the World Cup, which begins on Monday against the Netherlands in Group A. Senegal made this announcement during a press conference on November 17 in Qatar.
Mane was pulled off early in Bayern’s 6-1 hammering of Werder Bremen due to a leg injury he sustained in that game, and as a result, his participation in the World Cup was seriously questioned. Although the Senegal Football Federation had first thought that the 30-year-old may miss the first few games and still play, it has now been confirmed that the nation’s biggest player will sit out the entire tournament.
Mane, who led Senegal to victory at the Africa Cup of Nations at the beginning of 2022, is in agony over the news. Unfortunately, not Qatar. Instead, Mane will be sitting in a chair and watching while he works to get better in time for the restart of club football in Germany.
Mane has been the team’s talisman, scoring the winning penalty at the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon in February and six weeks later securing World Cup qualification. On both occasions, they edged out Egypt on post-match penalties. Mane, 30, has twice been named African Footballer of the Year.
