Roy Keane criticized the England players. Roy Keane, a former player for Manchester United, criticized England for their performance in their 2-1 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal loss to France. To advance to the semifinals, the defending champions defeated the Three Lions in a fiercely contested last-eight match on December 10.

In the 17th minute, Aurelien Tchouameni’s piledriver from outside the box gave the defending world champions the lead. In the 54th minute, Harry Kane scored a penalty to equalize, but 24 minutes later, Olivier Giroud scored again to give the French team the lead. In the 84th minute, Kane had another chance to tie the score, but he misfired and the Les Bleus went on to win. Keane expressed his displeasure with the performance of Gareth Southgate’s team against France, claiming that they frittered away their lead in the game.

The former footballer remarked whilst speaking on ITV: “That’s where the players have to take control. When we were at the game the other night against France, I’d try to describe it if I were in that position. It was like you have your foot on someone’s throat, you’ve got to press down. I know a lot of the players in that England team have won titles at the club level. Don’t relax because if you do, a good team like France or England will discover that they are capable, and as soon as they relaxed, they paid the price.”

He then concluded: “Fine details, though, Harry Kane scored the penalty. But when they had those opportunities with that possession, you have to figure out how to win, and also what England are doing in a lot of these important games is finding a way to lose.” Didier Deschamps’ team was outplayed by England, who possessed 57% of the ball, attempted twice as many attempts (16-8), and made eight shots on goal compared to five for France. However, Les Bleus prevailed in crucial situations to continue fighting.

Walid Regragui, the manager of Morocco, claimed that his team was daydreaming about another great evening. Regragui put down the gauntlet to Les Bleus before the match against the current champions, saying that his team is not satisfied with being the first African country to participate in the World Cup quarterfinals. Regragui also said: “We’ll put up a lot of effort and attempt to cause a stir, he promised. Why not compete in the World Cup final? We are allowed to dream, and having dreams is free.” The 2022 FIFA World Cup final will be played on Sunday at the Lusail Iconic Stadium between the victor of the game at the Al Bayt Stadium and Argentina (December 18).
