Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his beliefs on midfielder Donny van de Beek’s place in the team.

“I’m really surprised that he’s not getting more game time. I’m 100% sure he was expecting more,” Ferdinand said to BT Sport.

“The interesting thing about the whole Van de Beek situation is what the negotiations were originally about.”

“When you sign a contract with a new club, you come into the team imagining your position in it. Whether you’ll be in the starting line-up straight away or whether you’ll have to work your way in.”

“That’s an important part of the story and we don’t know the answer to that yet. From what his agent has said, he expected him to be an important part of this team.”

“It hasn’t happened yet and he will have to worry about the Euros if things continue like this.”

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
