In the Spanish capital, many neediest families are affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid joined forces to launch a fundraiser to help them.
“Madrid led the way again in unity, sacrifice, and determination. We face one of the toughest situations in our recent history but we are going to get through it together,” Real president Florentino Perez said in a video released by both clubs.
“Together, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are introducing MadridxMadrid-an initiative to benefit the most vulnerable in our society.”
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo added: “This initiative can unite all of Madrid to help those who are going through a rough period.”
Spain is one of Europe’s most impacted coronavirus countries with more than 27,000 deaths and 8,000 in Madrid.
