Alfredo Morelos became the leading European goalscorer for Rangers, but his side was suddenly pegged back by 10-man Benfica in stoppage time.

Morelos accompanied Nicolas Otamendi’s red card, and after Diogo Goncalves found his own net and goals from Glen Kamara, Rangers led 3-1 with 13 minutes to go.

But before Darwin Silva’s substitution leveled late on Rafa Silva pounced on a mistake by Filip Helander.

Steven Gerrard’s men remain unbeaten in second place in the Europa League Group D.

But this draw would feel like a loss, having won so much of the game against the group leaders in Lisbon, who have now played 25 matches without defeat at home in the Europa League.

Lech beat St. Liege 3 – 1 in the second match of the group.
