Head coach Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are up for the title challenge after they efficiently defeated Aston Villa 1-2. Among other Premier League football fixtures, City won this away football match at Villa Park yesterday, on Wednesday.

Manchester City thus inflict his first Premier League defeat as the Aston Villa manager on Steven Gerrard, after two wins.

And while Ollie Watkins superbly scored a consolation goal for the home side, Manchester City had already decided the match in the first when Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva both scored to give them a two-goal lead.

Another moment of interest was when Pep Guardiola introduced Jack Grealish (the football news) as a late substitute. It was the latter’s first return to Villa Park since a £100m summer move from Aston Villa to Etihad Stadium.

The home crowd, who once adored Grealish as their club hero, greeted him now with the boos and applause mixed.

“People can express what they want,” said Guardiola about the reception that Grealish received from his former home audience. “If they boo it is because they love him so much. I thought a lot of people were clapping.

“A warm welcome back to this club. He loves this club more than any other. He decided to take the next step to play in Europe.”

It was a fourth league win in a row for Guardiola’s side, one that keeps them second in the table.

City, meanwhile, are now one point behind league leaders Chelsea in what could be a three-way title race, including Liverpool.

And Citizens’ boss Pep Guardiola says his team is up for the task.

“Do we have another alternative?” said Guardiola when asked whether City were ready to battle for the title. “So, we are going to face the challenge.”
