Brentford stops the rot by bringing their long winless run to an end against Norwich City. Toney secured the three points for the Bees with a predatory hat-trick which included two second-half penalties.

Norwich started the game well, but individual errors cost them. Pukki’s late goal was a mere consolation.

Starting Lineup:

NORWICH CITY (4-3-3): Tim Krul;

Sam Byram, Grantl Hanley (c), Ben Gibson, Brandon Williams;

Billy Gilmour, Mathias Normann, Kenny McLean;

Joshua Sargent, Teemu Pukki, Milot Rashica.

SUBS: Przemyslaw Placheta, Christoph Zimmermann, Max Aarons, Jon Rowe,

Pierre Lees-Melou, Angus Gunn, Jacob Lungi Sorensen, Kieran Dowell, Dimitrios Giannoulis.

BRENTFORD (4-4-2): David Raya;

Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson (c), Ethan Pinnock, Rico Henry;

Christian Eriksen, Christian Norgaard, Vitaly Janelt, Bryan Mbuemo;

Sergi Canos, Ivan Toney.

SUBS: Mads Roerslev Rasmussen, Mads Bech Sorensen, Mathias Jensen,

Shandon Baptiste, Saman Ghoddos, Yoane Wissa, Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka, Jonas, Zanka.

0-1 BRENTFORD. The visitors take the lead after a challenging opening half hour! Eriksen swings the corner in. Ajer flicks it on to Toney, who slots past Krul at the far post.

0-2 BRENTFORD. Toney cricks his neck and confidently dispatches the penalty to Krul’s right. The Norwich keeper had no chance. Unfortunately, it feels like Norwich also have no chance of staying up at this rate.

0-3 BRENTFORD. Toney’s second penalty is just as good as his first. He finds the bottom left corner to secure his hat-trick despite Krul diving the right way. Norwich will be distraught at how they’ve let this game slip away from them so quickly.

NORWICH CITY 1-3 BRENTFORD. Pukki lifts the home fans’ spirits somewhat. Rowe works hard to beat his man and cross from the byline. Pukki smashes in on the volley. The Finn is a good striker playing for a poor Norwich team.

So, what’s next for Norwich and Brentford?

Brentford head home buzzing, then, and face Burnley next. Win that game, and they should be fine. Norwich next welcome Chelsea to Carrow Road. It could be a long end to the season for them.
