Zlatan Ibrahimovic banned from a match after red card in Milan’s win to Parma

Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic could suffer a one-match suspension following his red card in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Parma, according to Tuttosport. AC Milan defeated Parma as Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave a brilliant performance in the first half assisting two goals before being sent off. Ibrahimovic one-match ban would lead him to miss the match against Lazio on April 26.

Thanks to goals from Ante Rebic, Franck Kessie, and Rafael Leao as Milan beat Parma 3-1 at Ennio Tardini Stadium. The game was turned around when Ibra said something to the official and referee Fabio Maresca sent him a straight red card. The referee’s decision to show a red card to the 39-year-old seemed to be out of the blue, with replays failing to pick up exactly what was said between the two men.

The Rossoneri boss came forward in support of his star player after being shown a red card. “Zlatan Ibrahimovic didn’t insult the referee,” according to Stefano Pioli for Sky Sport Italia.

“Zlatan told me he discussed something with the referee for a while, but didn’t show a lack of respect and absolutely didn’t insult him,” Pioli said.

“I haven’t spoken to Maresca, so I don’t know. Zlatan told me the final thing he said was: ‘So you’re not interested in what I have to say?”

The Sweden international is likely to challenge the red card, believing the referee misinterpreted what he meant.

Ibrahimovic is now facing a three-match ban for his conduct, having been shown a straight red card instead of two yellows, which would have seen him given just a one-match suspension.

If Milan decide against appealing the decision, the veteran Swede will miss upcoming home fixtures against Genoa and Sassuolo as well as a crucial trip to Lazio
