Solskjaer on penalty against Chelsea: It’s all outside influence, we don’t get penalties

In a 0-0 EPL game against Chelsea, Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left unhappy with the failure to award a penalty.

After the ball hit the hand of midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi in the first half, Chief referee Stuart Attwell, in consultation with VAR, decided not to award a penalty against the Londoners.

“I will not comment on Shaw’s words because it could turn out badly for him. I don’t want to start a controversy, but it’s wrong, isn’t it? It’s all outside influence. Talking about VAR and Maguire from Chelsea – it’s cheeky to put that on the website, it influences the referees,” the coach told The Guardian.

“You can read what they wrote on the website, putting pressure on the referees on the issue of penalties in our goal. Have we heard the coaches, like Lampard started it? Lots of talk about us getting penalties, even though there’s no doubt there. And now today’s situation where we should have got a penalty.”

“I guess the referees thought Hudson-Odoi’s hand was in a very natural position when he hit the ball. I’m a little concerned that we don’t get penalties after there was a ruckus a month or two ago about penalties being awarded in our favor. Obviously, the coaches are influencing the referees.”
