Pep Guardiola urges players to take opportunity in Champions League semi-finals

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says his players need to take the opportunity to control their emotions and make history when they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday. City head coach Pep Guardiola has shared his expectations for the return leg against PSG in the Champions League semi-final after scoring 2-1 in the first leg.

City has gained 2–1 after a stunning performance in Paris last week and Guardiola’s men are just a short distance away from their first Champions League final.

Guardiola, who has won the trophy twice as coach of Barcelona, urged his team to play with the same confidence that helped them dominate the Premier League this season. “We do not want to miss this opportunity. I think we will do well.”

“This is the first time most of us are here together – I know what we are playing, you don’t need a lot of emotion in these games – keep calm and you know what to do. It just came to our attention then. What we need to do is no different from what has been done in the last seven months. We go out there, we play our game and we win,” he said.

“PSG are an outstanding team, everyone knows that. They are capable of creating for victory in a way that many people simply do not expect. Of course, I know what they are capable of, but what they do on the pitch is too fresh in my mind,” said Guardiola to UEFA official website.

PSG striker Kylian Mbappé went missing with a calf injury in front of the Lens after the weekend’s league win and the match is questionable at the Etihad Stadium. The video circulated on social media showed the French World Cup winner cheating on arriving in Manchester, but Guardiola has no doubt about the availability of Mbappe. “He is going to play. I’m looking forward to playing. For football, for sports, we hope he can play,” Guardiola said.

Manchester City hopes to book their plane tickets to Istanbul for the Champions League finals as they aim to defeat PSG on Tuesday night in their semi-finals return leg.
