Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has commented on the spending the club can afford.
“This is our story and it will always be with us. Many journalists write that we only win because of money. This is not the opinion of one writer but of many.”
“Since it is so, we have to accept it. It must be true. But there are clubs who also spend a lot and their budgets are higher than ours,” Guardiola said at the press conference.
“That’s our share, but for the last 30-40 years we’ve played alongside the elite clubs.”
“United won everything because they spent more than anyone else. I can say the same for Barcelona and Real Madrid.”
“I don’t think we are different from other top clubs in the world in this matter, but we have to accept that and show our best game.”
Under the Spanish specialist, Manchester City has spent around £550m on players – more than any other English club. Meanwhile, during this period Manchester United has spent almost £500million and has never won the Premier League.
