Lovrić hit winning goal for Slovenia

In the first match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar, Slovenia unexpectedly beat Croatia. The hosts scored a goal in the first half and then defended effectively.

Croatians created the first good opportunities. In the 7th minute, Kramarić, who hit from distance, made a little mistakes. A minute later, Nikola Vlasić was even closer to his first goal.

This time the ball bounced off the post. What the visitors failed to do, the Slovenians managed to do. Sandi Lovrić got a pass on the edge of the penalty area, in the 15th minute, and with a flat shot took the hosts into the lead.

Josip Ilicić had a chance for the second goal for Slovenia even before the break, but he hit just over the crossbar. The match was evenly matched and played at a fast pace.

After the break, the Croatians incredibly moved forward. They were almost constantly in the opponents’ half, but they could not create too many situations, thanks to which they could threaten the opponent.

Ivan Perisic scored the equalizing goal as he was active on the left. However, Jan Oblak was on his guard. Until the final whistle the Slovenians defended well.

For the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, the Slovenian team is making a successful start to the qualifiers. Croatia, on the other hand, has to swallow the bitterness of defeat.
