La Liga club Valencia fired manager Javi Gracia

Valencia fired Javi Gracia as a coach, with the Spain club announcing only four matches of the season on Monday. A 3–2 loss to Barcelona at Mestalla on Sunday proved to be Garcia’s last match after just 10 months of driving. Valencia is in 14th place after six matches without a win in La Liga, but Garcia put them away from the final three after the club sold some key players last summer. Currently, they are six points above the relegation zone.

Valencia CF on Monday, May 3 2021 announced the dismissal of Javi Gracia as the first-team coach. “The club would like to publicly thank him for his work and dedication during his time coaching the team and wish him the best of success for the future. Salvador González ‘Voro’ will take charge of the first team on an interim basis.”

Valencia ended an unhappy season under the unpopular leadership of owner Peter Lim and chairman Anil Murthy to continue the club’s decline.

Gracia joined Spain’s top decision club Valencia on 27th July 2020 agreeing on a two-year deal but following a home defeat to Catalan giants, he was sacked. Garcia’s job became difficult when the club confirmed no signings last summer, leaving Ferran Torres, Rodrigo Moreno, Daniel Parejo, and Francis Coquelin. Parrejo and Coquelin joined rival team Villarreal.

According to information from the Spanish press at the time, in September, Gracia criticized the club’s activity in the transfer window and even considered his resignation.

Three wins in the first 18 La Liga matches were in Valencia’s last three in January, but a slight improvement in results was enough to take them away from the charge zone before another fall in recent weeks.

After Valencia fired Javi Gracia, Lim and Murthy will now seek club’s sixth permanent coach in five years. It is also the sixth time that Vorro has been temporarily placed in office.
