Jack Grealish injury setback: ruled out for two weeks

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish suffered another injury in his comeback to the club ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Liverpool. The midfielder is expected to be ruled out for two weeks in another blow to Aston Villa. Dean Smith, manager of Villa provided Jack Grealish injury update admitting he had been rushed back “a little bit too quickly”.

The Villa captain returned to training last week after nursing a shin injury due to which he had missed England’s recent World Cup qualifying matches also seven Premier League games. Grealish was out of the field since February for an injury which is not only a concern for Villa but also a blow for England manager Gareth Southgate who handed the 25-year-old his full England debut last year.

Dean Smith on Jack Grealish injury update

“No, he’s not (fit),” Smith said. “Myself and Jack were quite optimistic to get him back a bit sooner than he probably should, and he’s had a setback that will probably put him back a couple of weeks.”

Smith added: “He was really good in training, but he couldn’t tolerate the loading. It’s a loading injury and we have to de-load him over the next few weeks and get him back from there. We know it’s not a long-term injury and he will be back.”

“We all, Jack included, probably pushed him back a little bit too quickly. He wanted to get back, we wanted him to get back and he had a little setback.”

Grealish is set to serve Aston Villa until the 2024/25 season since he agreed to an extended contract in September. On Saturday, Aston Villa is set to face the Reds of Merseyside in their next Premier League clash. Smith is reluctant to rush his star player back into action from an injury thus Villa players will square off Liverpool without captain Jack Grealish. This season the 25-year-old has scored six Premier League goals for Villa, adding 10 assists.
