AC Milan kicked off the new season as they beat Sampdoria with a 1-0 football score, thanks to Brahim Diaz’s goal at the Marassi. Milan commenced the season with a trip to Genoa to face Roberto D’Aversa’s new side Sampdoria on Monday night for a football match.
With Brahim Diaz scoring after only nine minutes, thanks to a great assist from Davide Calabria, Kjaer persisted, and Milan got off to a flying start. In the first few minutes, Milan continued to run Sampdoria ragged, with Rafael Leao proving to be a threat on the left flank for the Rossoneri.
After 16 minutes, the Danish international won a free-kick, and Manolo Gabbiadini’s effort was deflected over the crossbar by Maignan. Sampdoria forced a double save from the French goalkeeper on the following corner but Omar Colley was offside, so it wouldn’t have counted. On the other hand, Samp did not give up and continued to press for an equalizer.
After 24 minutes when Audero parried the ball right at his feet Rade Krunic, who started in the middle alongside Sandro Tonali, squandered a huge opportunity. Giroud was put to the test in his first Serie A game against Colley, as the two battled for every ball, but it was Yoshida’s exquisite tackle that kept Samp in the game.
Audero did well to prevent Giroud from scoring his first goal when the former Chelsea striker brought down the ball but did not make proper contact with the finish. The goalkeeper had to stretch to reach the loose ball, but he was able to maintain the status quo at the Marassi before the break.
Milan had a lot of energy at the start, but Sampdoria held on and made things difficult for last year’s runners-up. In the second half of the game the tempo slowed down and the intervals between highlights became longer after the break. Milan introduced Ismael Bennacer with 20 minutes remaining, but Tonali and Krunic had performed admirably in the absence of the Algerian and Franck Kessie.
