Michail Antonio lauded Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk. Michail Antonio, a striker for West Ham United, praised Virgil van Dijk, a center-back for Liverpool. Since his £75 million transfer from Southampton in 2018, the Netherlands international has undoubtedly established himself as one of the top defenders. He played in 204 games with the Reds, contributing to their victories in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, among other accolades.

When Sky Sports recently questioned Antonio about his best matchup, Antonio responded, “Virgil van Dijk. He’s got it all, buddy. He has it all: he is strong, swift, and attractive. I have nothing negative to say about him. He is fully equipped.”

The Netherlands were defeated by Argentina on penalties in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals after Van Dijk had guided them there. Emiliano Martinez made a fine save in the shootout against the defender. Although Van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018, he has been a mainstay in their defense, albeit his performances this year have somewhat decreased.

In 16 Premier League games this season, the Reds have given up 19 goals and frequently appeared weak. The team led by Jurgen Klopp is currently sixth in the standings, a massive 15 points down from league leaders Arsenal. After the FIFA World Cup break, club football resumed, and Liverpool won both of their league games, but they continued to lack confidence.

On December 30, the Reds defeated Leicester City 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League. In the fourth minute, Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall gave the Foxes the lead. But the hosts won all three points thanks to Wout Faes’ two own goals. Van Dijk acknowledged Liverpool didn’t play their best and highlighted their errors in a post-game interview.

He stated: “We tried, I guess. We made an effort to participate, but as we all know, it wasn’t good enough today. So, even if there are many areas where we still need to improve, the fact that we won is a very encouraging development. We did a great job of preparing; we played well the other day in Birmingham, and we attempted to carry that momentum across. We were perhaps a little bit too hasty, which caused us to lose the ball in challenging circumstances and in an open space. Naturally, they have a large number of players who can play to their strengths, but we must accept the three points, remain optimistic, and go on to the next.”
