Sky Sports pundit and former champion of the Premier League, Micah Richards, believes Liverpool will stay at the same high standard that earned them the title last season and will be just the team to beat in 2020/21 if their squad remains injury-free.
The Reds blew away last season’s rivalry, doing so with a secured starting XI for much of the campaign. Injuries have come and went, but at crucial times the majority of chief players in Jurgen Klopp team remained available – which is something that might be the difference this season if the tide is turned, says Richards.
“[Liverpool] will be as good if they keep everyone fit. If they get a couple of injuries during the season, no,” the former Manchester City defender tells ahead of Sky Sports’ 29th season of live Premier League coverage.
“If you took [Mohamed] Salah or [Sadio] Mane out of the team, that’s just obvious they can’t be the same. The quality they’ve got off the bench is not the same as the first XI.”
“That’s why you would think they would be at it in the transfer market and it’s difficult because you don’t want to bring a top player in just to sit on the bench. So it’s a bit of catch-22 with Liverpool.”
