Messi tribute to Diego Maradona as Argentina secured knockout. After his team qualified for the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Argentina star Lionel Messi paid respect to the late Diego Maradona. On Wednesday, November 30, La Albiceleste overcame Poland 2-0 thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez in the second half of their last group match. Diego Maradona would have been pleased with their performance last night, according to Lionel Messi, who missed a penalty in the 39th minute.

Diego would be content, he claimed. He was always pleased when good things happened to the Argentina national team and me personally. He was close and loving all the time. When Maradona led the team from 2008 to 2010, Messi and the former had a good friendship. The two Argentine giants kept in touch even after that, with Diego Maradona attending his country’s matches at the World Cup and Copa America championships.

Messi added that Diego would be content. He was always pleased when good things happened to the Argentina national team and me personally. He was close and loving all the time. Due to the forward’s similar playing style and influence on Argentina’s national team, Messi has always garnered comparisons to him. But unlike Maradona, who famously led his squad to World Cup victory in 1986, Messi has yet to lead his nation to a championship. This may be the 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player’s final opportunity to win the World Cup and join the late football great in World Cup history.

Argentina eventually prevailed over Poland to win the group with six points in three games after a stressful and laborious process. Despite their dominance, La Albiceleste was unable to defeat the Eagles, with Wojciech Szczesny saving Lionel Messi’s penalty. Alexis Mac Allister, though, broke the tie from close range just a few seconds after the game restarted as a result of their perseverance. Julian Alvarez of Manchester City extended their lead with a clinical finish into the top corner another 20 or so minutes later.

Despite having a surprising 1-2 loss to Saudi Arabia to begin their campaign, Messi and company nevertheless managed to win the group. They are matched against Australia in the round of 16, which sounds like a manageable challenge for Messi and the company.

The Socceroos finished with six points from three games and advanced out of a group that included France and Denmark. Australia narrowly defeated Tunisia and Denmark to advance to the Round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA World Cup following a loss to the tournament’s defending champion France. On Saturday, December 3, the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium will host the semifinal match between Argentina and Australia.
