For Argentina, Barcelona striker Lionel Messi played his 142nd match.

The forward played all 90 minutes, the day before, in a match against Peru in World Cup 2022 qualification.

Opta Javier reports that in terms of the number of games for the national team among South Americans, Messi shares third place with Cafu (142 games for Brazil).

South America’s record belongs to Javier Mascherano (147 games), followed by another Argentinean, Javier Zanetti (143).
