Joao Moutinho winner breaks 41 years old record against Manchester United.

Manchester United 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Manchester United tasted their first defeat under the new management of Ralf Rangnick. As they were outplayed by the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford last night.

Bruno Lage’s side dominated much of the first half and recorded 15 shots, the most by a team visiting Old Trafford since 2003-04, without finding the back of the net.

The second half started more evenly, with both teams having chances to take the lead. Bruno Fernandes was unlucky as his shot hits the bar and Cristiano Ronaldo’s header was also disallowed due to Ronaldo being in an offside position.

Wolves broke the deadlock eight minutes from time when the ball fell to Joao Moutinho on the edge of the box after Phil Jones headed out an Adama Traore cross and the Portuguese midfielder struck a low shot past David de Gea and into the bottom corner.

Wolves go up to eighth in the league – just three points behind United, who remain seventh.

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick Post Match Reaction:

Rangnick stressed. “I knew it would be a difficult job”,

“There was a reason why they contacted me and signed me, so I knew from the start it would not be an easy job to find the best possible balance with regards to the players we have offensively and defensively.

“It was important for me we don’t concede that many goals. But again today against a good team, one of the better teams in possession of the ball and not an easy team to create chances [against] ourselves, it still showed we are struggling and we have quite a few steps to take.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage Post Match Reaction:

“It is one more victory. Lovely stadium, a place with a lot of history but the most important thing is how we played.”

We played in our way, we controlled the first half and missed a lot of chances. We win three points and have more chances than goals.”

“We deserved the three points. Every time I am positive and try to win the games. This is football, they had one good chance for Bruno.”
