On Friday Olympique Lyon discontinue the good competition start before the international period. The French club played a goalless at a visit to Girondins Bordeaux.
Thanks to a hat-trick from Memphis Depay, the Dutchman who lost to Italy with the Orange squad on Monday (0-1), Lyon beat Dijon 4-1 in the first round on 28 August.
It was a lot more difficult against Bordeaux. Memphis was part of a three-man attack with Moussa Dembélé and Karl Toko-Ekambi. In the first half, Lyon only fired one shot on goal.
Almost all goal attempts ended up next to or over the goal, although Lyon was even more dominant with a lot of ball possession after the break. Memphis tried with a free kick in a dangerous place, however, he ran into his own player.
After 72 minutes for Tino Kadewere, trainer Rudi Garcia took the attacker to the side. Garcia could no longer rely on Kenny Tete. The right-back went to Fulham this week.
It stayed at 0-0 in Bordeaux, which meant a disappointment for Lyon. The team now has four points from two games, just as many as AS Monaco and Lille, among others. OGC Nice is the leader with six points from two duels. Lyon failed to distance itself further from champion Paris Saint-Germain, which lost 1-0 to newly-promoted RC Lens on Thursday.
