Lyon are through to the quarter-final with a 2-1 aggregate win over Porto in the Round of 16 of Champions League.

Dembele scored an early goal to put Lyon in control of the tie before Pepe Aquino equalised on the night with a superb volley into the top corner.

Porto pushed for the equaliser they needed without testing Lopes.

Lyon had many chances to wrap the game up, with Costa making good saves to deny Ekambi, Dembele and Paqueta.

Starting Lineup:

LYON STARTING XI (4-4-2): Anthony Lopes;

Leo Dubois, Thiago Mendes, Castello Lukeba, Emerson;

Karl Toko Ekambi, Tamguy Ndombele, Maxence Caqueret, Romain Faivre;

Lucas Paqueta, Moussa Dembele.

PORTO STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Diogo Costa;

Bruno Costa, Pepe, Chancel Mbemba, Zaidu Sanusi;

Marko Grujic, Stephen Eustaquio; Pepe Aquino, Fabio Vieira, Wenderson Galeno;

Toni Martinez.

Goals:

DEMBELE SCORES! It’s a lovely chipped pass from Dubois to pick out Dembele, who gets goalside of Mbemba. He’s being closed down by Diogo Costa, so he takes the shot quickly, hitting it under the keeper’s outstretched arm and into the net. The Porto defenders are asking for offside, but he timed his run perfectly. 1-0 Lyon.

PEPE AQUINO SCORES! And what a goal it is! He knocks it out wide to Vieira and he lifts a good cross back into the middle. Pepe Aquino is standing unmarked on the penalty spot and gets his leg up to volley his shot into the top left corner, giving Lopes absolutely no chance. 1-1! (2-1 Lyon on aggregate).

So, what’s next for Lyon and Porto?

Lyon’s name goes into the draw for the quarter-final which will take place on Friday, with the ties due to be played in the first week of April.

Next up for them is a trip to Reims in Ligue 1 this weekend.

Porto’s European involvement comes to an end as they turn their attention back to the league. They have Boavista next time out in the Primeira Liga.
