Liverpool and Chelsea will meet on Saturday for gameweek three of the 2021-22 Premier League season. Last week, Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Burnley 2-0, while Chelsea defeated Arsenal by the same score. Here is everything you need to know about Liverpool vs Chelsea football prediction, team news, and lineup for the first Premier League of the season.

Team news

Liverpool

Kostas Tsimikas excelled in Andy Robertson’s absence, but the Scot is expected to reclaim his starting spot here.

Due to his father’s untimely death, Fabinho missed last weekend’s win over Burnley, but he could return here. Thiago is also hoping to make his first appearance of the season.

Last weekend, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also unavailable due to the birth of his first child, but he should be available for selection this weekend.

Diogo Jota has started the season well, but Roberto Firmino’s work rate may force the Brazilian to be recalled against Chelsea.

Chelsea

Both Hakim Ziyech and N’Golo Kante returned from injuries to play off the bench against Arsenal last weekend. In the starting lineup Mateo Kovacic will almost certainly be replaced by the latter.

Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are not expected to play due to positive COVID-19 tests.

As Marcos Alonso has had a strong start to the season at left wing-back Ben Chilwell may have to remain on the bench for the time being.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Prediction

Liverpool and Chelsea have both started the season with perfect records after two games. Chelsea has signed its former player Romelu Lukaku while Liverpool has decided to invest in the long-term prospects of their best players.

In the last six Premier League meetings between the two teams, Chelsea has won only once against Liverpool.

Tuchel’s tenacious defense will consider themselves fortunate if they do not concede against the Reds, but with attacking threats coming from all angles, we believe the Blues’ firepower will help them maintain their unbeaten start to the season at the expense of Liverpool’s.

Lineup

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Mane

Chelsea possible starting lineup:

Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Alonso; Mount, Havertz; Lukaku

Our Prediction: Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
