Thiago has been out with a knee problem since October’s bad-tempered Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, where Virgil van Dijk also suffered a devastating ACL injury. The 29-year-old Spain international was pictured doing individual work at Liverpool’s training ground for the first time last month and has been stepping up his recovery over the last few weeks, with a view to returning in the new year.
Jurgen Klopp has been handed a timely boost ahead of Liverpool’s busy winter schedule, with Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri all involved in full training on Wednesday.
Klopp said he expected to have the trio back in full training this week and is likely to provide another update ahead of the league leaders’ clash with West Brom this weekend. Sunday’s match comes far too soon for crocked Liverpool stars Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota, and Konstantinos Tsimikas, who are all struggling with knee injuries.
Milner, 34, has missed the Premier League champions’ last six matches due to a thigh problem, while Shaqiri, 29, has been unavailable since as far back as mid-November.
