English champions Liverpool maintained a 100% performance beating Arsenal 3-1 in the third round of the Premiership.
It immediately started fierily. For slicing down Kieran Tierney, a yellow card was shown to Sadio Mane after 2 minutes. The impression is that Judge Craig Pawson would not have made a mistake even if he had ruled out the Senegalese.
Liverpool had a chance in the 16th minute just over Mane, who was stopped by Bernd Leno, and six minutes later luck saved Arsenal with a shot by Trent Alexander-Arnold who shot from 18 meters. A powerful blow hit Hector Bellerin on the legs and ended up on the beam.
Three minutes later a shock at Anfield.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles ran onto a great ball from Andy Robertson, which beat the offside trap, the keeper came rushing out and the lob was attempted, but the lob didn’t succeed.
The English champion returns in the 28th minute, instantly. After a great break into the penalty area, the playful Mohamed Salah shot from the right side was defended by Leno and bounced right on the leg of the running Mane who immediately equalized.
Jurgen Klopp’s team also has the lead in six minutes. Robertson alone scored without a problem for the Reds lead and Alexander-Arnold scored from right to left. It was a simple and great combination by the Reds defenders.
In the 63rd minute, Arsenal could equalize. The Brazilian on Liverpool’s goal showed why he is one of the best in the world as Lacazette himself went out on Alisson and ruined the equalizer.
The Portuguese Diogo Jota arrived from the Wolves for 45 million and in the 80th minute, made his debut for Liverpool and three minutes later he had a 3: 1 lead. Salah found it nicely on the left, Jota adjusted and hit the outside of the net. In front of Len Salah and Jota got entangled in a promising situation in the 86th minute and thus failed to confirm the question of the winner.
In the 88th minute, Jota redeemed himself in his Premiership debut for the Reds. He received the ball on his knee, dropped it on the kick, and pulled into Len’s right corner for 3: 1.
Arsenal will meet Sheffield United on October 4, and Liverpool will play against Birmingham at Aston Villa on the same day.
