Kyle Walker cited former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane as the most challenging opponent he has ever faced in place of his impending World Cup foe Kylian Mbappe. On December 10, England will play France in an exciting quarterfinal. Mbappe has scored five goals in outstanding form for Les Bleus so far. In the last eight matches, Walker will have the challenging task of containing the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) attacker’s quickness and explosive style of play.
Walker has faced top-tier wingers throughout his career while representing Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and England. He also competed against Mbappe in 2021’s two-legged UEFA Champions League victory over PSG by Manchester City. However, Walker refused to pick the pacy winger as his toughest-ever opponent.
Walker stated he had not faced the Frenchman one-on-one in their prior encounter. Neymar was actually his main rival. In a news conference, the Englishman gushed about the Brazilian, saying, “For me, technically, it wasn’t Mbappe one against one, it was more Neymar, and I believe Neymar’s a fantastic player.”
However, the right-back identified Mane as the guy who caused him the greatest issues. I’d probably pick Sadio Mane, Walker continued, just because he never lets you rest when he has the ball. While I’m not claiming Neymar and Mbappe or the other players I named don’t defend well or save their energy for attacks, it’s likely that they do. Mane is probably it for me.
