On Friday with his match-winning goal, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz set a new Bundesliga record against Freiburg.
The 20-year-old slotted past Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow to round off an outstanding team move, and rushed forward to catch the return pass after flicking the ball onto Leon Bailey.
The goal is Havertz’s 35th in the Bundesliga since his 2016 debut and he’s the first player to hit that tally before he was 21 years old. He is also closing in on the top ten scorers of all time at Leverkusen.
During this calendar year, scoring nine goals and assisting four times, he has been the most successful player in the top five leagues in Europe.
