Only a week after hiring Andrea Pirlo for the Under-23 team Juventus formally named him as their new senior coach after sacking Maurizio Sarri.
He signed a deal until June 2022.
“The decision was made on the conviction Pirlo has what it takes to lead, from his debut on the bench, an experienced squad full of talent to chase new success,” read a statement (via official website).
In a press conference just a week ago President Andrea Agnelli and director Fabio Paratici introduced Pirlo as the new Under-23 coach who plays in Series C – the third tier of Italy.
That was going to be his first management position but without even having a single match he’s already promoted to the main Juventus bench.
In the 16 round, Juventus lost to Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League and Sarri’s been fired just hours after the loss.
He had secured their ninth consecutive Serie A title but lost both the Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia Final.
