The full-time whistle goes, with Bayern holding out for a commanding 2-0 victory over Inter Milan.
After showing some positive signs in the first half, Inter’s attack was blunt, to say the least, in the second.
With Dzeko and Martinez feeding off scraps and having next to nothing in the way of chances.
Leroy Sane led Bayern to turn the screw, with the opening goalscorer playing the crucial part in D’Ambrosio’s own goal, which sealed the result.
Inter will know they need to improve, but they were given very little license to play in a game dominated by the Bavarians across the pitch.
Starting lineup:
INTER (3-5-2): Andre Onana;
Danilo D’Ambrosio, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni;
Denzel Dumfries, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Robin Gosens;
Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer;
Benjamin Pavard, Matthijs De Ligt, Lucas Hernandez, Alphonso Davies;
Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer; Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane;
Sadio Mane.
Goals:
GOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! The Bavarians hit the front!!! Kimmich picks out Sane on the fly with a delightful ball from the halfway line, and the Bayern winger rounds the onrushing Onana before stroking the ball into an empty net!!! The top class from the 2020 champions go 1-0 up at the San Siro!
GOOAAALLL!!!! Bayern doubles their lead via a calamitous Inter-own goal!!! A brilliant set of one-twos between Mane and Sane results in the ball being flicked over the Inter defence, and Sane hits a shot low towards the far corner. D’Ambrosio is there and attempts to clear it off the line, but the Nerazzurri captain shanks his effort, putting it into his netting and putting Bayern 2-0 up! That might just seal it!
So, what’s next?
However, it’s the first of six games each, and with performances such as this one, you’d fancy Bayern to go toe-to-toe with the Blaugrana.
Inter will shake off this loss with little difficulty, knowing they do have the quality to test the rest of the group, and they’ll be eager to show a response in their next game when they head to the Czech Republic to face Plzen.
