Hero Indian Super League defending champions Mumbai City retained their dominance in the points table as they beat Jamshedpur FC 4-2 (match score) in the 23rd league match of 2021-22 played at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa on Thursday. Mumbai City, under the supervision of new coach Des Buckingham, has picked up 12 points with their fourth win in their fifth match and retain the top position, while Jamshedpur FC has 8 points after their second defeat in five matches.

Mumbai City dominated the first half of the football match played at their home ground Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, but in the second half, the players of Jamshedpur showed stamina and forced the champions to struggle.

Casio Gabriel’s goal gave Mumbai City an early lead in the third minute. Mumbai got a corner kick, in which Ahmed Jahouh delivered the ball to Gabriel standing outside the box on a left corner kick and the Brazilian attacking midfielder made a loop. The ball went over Jamshedpur’s defense and his teammate Igor Angulo fails to change the direction of the ball from the header inside the box but the ball tipped over Jamshedpur goalkeeper TP Rehenesh and went into the goalpost. In this way, Mumbai City went ahead 1-0.

Mumbai’s lead has doubled in the 17th minute when Bipin Singh’s goal made the score 2-0. Last season’s Golden Boot, Angulo, scored his fifth goal of the season in the 24th minute to take Mumbai ahead 3-0. Spanish striker Igor Angulo continued his stellar form playing a role in the opening three goals of Mumbai.

Komal Thatal in the 48th minute scored the first goal for Jamshedpur FC. Komal entered the box with the ball and made a brilliant kick to make the score 1-3. In the 55th minute, Jamshedpur further reduced the gap by 2-3 with a goal from Eli Sabia. However, in the 70th minute, a goal from Brazilian forward Ygor Catatau put Mumbai City ahead 4-2.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
