Erling Haaland’s Saturday game-winning penalty against Fulham came after one of the “most anxious moments” in his life. In the fifth minute of stoppage time in the Premier League game on Saturday, Haaland converted the penalty kick to give Manchester City a 2-1 victory, setting off raucous celebrations from manager Pep Guardiola.

Fantastic, he said to Sky Sports. I was anxious about the punishment. One of the most anxious times in my life, yet a beautiful one. Of course, I would feel anxious if there was a penalty in the final seconds. Amazing sensation, though. My favorite. Since I’ve been hurt for a week, I need to win badly.

Prior to Arsenal’s Sunday trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, Haaland’s penalty gave City a vital three points to put them atop the table. Despite being down to 10 players and giving up an equalizer in the first half, City came back to win in the last seconds of play.

Haaland’s penalty kick conversion is City’s newest game-winning tally in the Premier League since Raheem Sterling scored against Southampton at 95:04 of the same month in 2017. On Wednesday, Haaland and company face Chelsea at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
