Diego Simeone’s longtime Atletico Madrid assistant German Burgos is set to leave at the end of the season to seek his ambition to become a head coach.
It had been speculated over recent weeks and on Wednesday he confirmed the news that Burgos would be trying to find new pastures.
“I will take my first steps as a head coach at the end of the current 2019-20 season,” he told Atletico’s official website.
“I think I am completely qualified to manage a team, with over 10 years of experience in the first division.”
“Those people who have made me who I am as a coach and a person had a big impact on me. I bring them with me in my mind. Luis Aragones, Carlos Griguol, Marcelo Bielsa … I was inspired by those people.”
“A second coach who wishes to become a head coach it is a normal thing.”
