Hilton saw red in a 2-1 victory over Lyon, the first player over the age of 43 to appear in Ligue 1 since 1956 after the captain of Montpellier was sent off against Lyon on Tuesday.
In June 1956 the former Troyes striker Roger Courtois, aged 44, had a player over the age of 43 played in the top flight of France, according to bein sports.
Montpellier defender Hilton marked the occasion by earning a red card in the club’s 2-1 victory over Lyon, though the Brazilian followed Courtois’ footsteps during the week.
In the top five European leagues since Marco Ballotta (44) in 2008 Hilton is the oldest player and with nine minutes left after a penalty was given to Barcelona target and Lyon captain Memphis Depay, he was dismissed for a second bookable offense.
