England midfielder Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp has influenced the keen perception of the national team’s matches against Germany. Both the teams will meet at Wembley on Tuesday in the Euro 2020 round of 16. This is considered to be their first competitive meeting since a 4-1 loss at the 2010 World Cup.

Henderson revealed that as soon as Germany clinched their last 16 tie with England as the bitter rivals prepare to clash, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sent a text message to him.

“Yes, the coach has had a big impact. He has incredible charisma, many people love him, even as neutral fans. He has played an important role in the EPL, in English soccer,” said Henderson to Sky Sports. “As soon as the German match [against Hungary] was over, he sent me a smiley face emoji!”

The 31-year-old Englishman joined the football club, Liverpool, in 2015 and since then he has developed a close relationship with the German coach and admits Klopp’s engaging personality has won him many admirers in England.

Liverpool captain Henderson said: “We’ve got quite a young squad but I think that can be a positive thing. A lot of these lads just go out and play, enjoy the game, play with no fear. And that’s what they need to do again on Tuesday.”

“We respect Germany. They are still a top team with top players, so it will be difficult for us. It will be very important not to lose the ball and to play defense with confidence. They have players like Kroos who can create a lot of problems if you give him time and space.”

England famously lost to Germany on penalties at Italia 90 and in Euro 96. This time England team manager Gareth Southgate has already had the players practicing ahead of a shoot-out while Henderson also says the current generation has got a new mental strength.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
