Only a day after Javi Martinez was reported to be rejoining Athletic Bilbao, Hansi Flick reasonably thought that he was the unlikely Super Cup hero of Bayern Munich.

“Javi scored the goal and won the game for us. Sometimes football writes these stories -this is a wonderful one,” head coach Flick told Sky.

“There were rumors that he was in Bilbao on Wednesday; however he scored the winning goal tonight.”

In Bayern’s previous Super Cup victory seven years ago, as they beat Chelsea on penalties Martinez also came off the bench to score an extra-time goal.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
