Ilkay Gundogan believes Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a good candidate to succeed Joachim Low as Germany’s coach.

If German national team manager Joachim Low becomes available, Ilkay Gundogan will welcome the appointment of Pep Guardiola as his replacement.

Previously this month, Low made it known that he wants to step down as the national team’s coach after the postponed European Championship finals, which are set to start in June.

At the Etihad Stadium under the Catalan, Gundogan has played the last five seasons and is having his best season in terms of goal involvements.

“I would personally hire him instantly but I think that would be difficult as he is not currently available,” he said at a news conference on Tuesday according to the beINSports.

“I also don’t know if I would like to be without him at City. Besides, I owe a lot to Joachim and I want him to leave on a high.”

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
