Real Madrid defeated Getafe 1-0 on Saturday as they prepare for their match against Barcelona. An early goal from Eder Militao was enough for Real Madrid.

The Spanish champions broke the score after only three minutes when Militao headed in at the near post after a corner from Luka Modric. In the second half, Rodrygo believed he had doubled his team’s advantage, but the goal was disallowed.

With three points more than Barcelona thanks to the victory, Madrid may catch up to their rivals on Sunday if Barcelona defeats Celta. The victory keeps Madrid’s unblemished start to the season intact. This was a welcome turnaround for the Blancos after they were held to a stalemate by Osasuna the previous weekend.

In this game, Madrid was without its top striker Karim Benzema and undoubtedly did not have the Frenchman’s shooting eye. Against Getafe, Madrid made 18 attempts, but only four of them were successful. Had the 34-year-old been healthy, his three La Liga goals this season would have added another threat up front.

The team of Ancelotti will face Shakhtar in midweek Champions League action. They will then face Barcelona in the opening Clasico of the season.

Match Highlight: Three minutes into the match, Militao scored the game-winning goal by latching onto a Modric corner and beating Soria with his shot.

Rodrygo forced the goalie to make a save after Valverde and Modric both missed their first-half shots, but Vinicius provided the late drama in the first 45 minutes.

Before Ancelotti’s team felt they had breathing room, Rodrygo, Tchouameni, and Modric fired off a flurry of shots.

Taking a feed from Valverde and leading the line, Rodrygo chipped the ball over Soria and into the goal, but VAR intervened to rule the goal illegal since the 21-year-old was in an offside position.
