After Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta announced the striker will be out with a knee injury for “months”, Gabriel Martinelli won’t be playing against Southampton on Thursday.
The Brazilian is set to go through more testing in the next few days, as on Sunday Martinelli sustained a knock, a minor cartilage injury in his left knee, during the training.
Arteta said in a press conference on Tuesday: “We had some really bad news in training again yesterday. Martinelli got hit by another player during the last action and he damaged his knee.”
“The doctors are analyzing the extent of the injury but it doesn’t look good at all.”
While asked how long the forward will not be available, Arteta said: “We don’t know, but it looks like for months.”
