Zaha raised his voice against players getting down on knee – “I should stand with my head held high”

Crystal Palace midfielder Wilfried Zaha has spoken out on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Ivorian has before explained against players getting down on one knee before matches, noting that such actions do not actually do anything to fight racism.

“I have already said that I find it humiliating to get down on one knee because my parents have always told me that I should be proud to be black no matter what happens. So I think I should stand with my head held high,” Zaha said to Sky Sports.

“We take a knee before matches, but sometimes people already forget that we have to do that. We want to give it some meaning, but it’s not enough for me. I’m not going to take a knee, I’m not going to put Black Lives Matter on my back, because now it’s perceived as a target.”

“We’re setting ourselves apart from the rest of the world. We talk about equality, but things like that alienate us and don’t work at all. That’s my position. I believe we should stand with our heads held high.”
