Xavi extended Al-Sadd contract until 2023

Barcelona legend, Xavi will continue to be in charge of Al-Sadd in Qatar as he extended his contract until 2023. Xavi has long been speculated to make a return to Camp Nou, but his time as a head coach of his former team. He was linked twice, first before Ronald Koeman’s appointment in 2020-21, and then after Joan Laporta’s victory in the presidential election.

The Spanish international ended rumors that say he will join La Liga giants Barcelona by agreeing to a new deal with Al-Sadd. Xavi has served Barca for 17 years winning eight LaLiga trophies and four Champions League titles among other honors.

“We achieved a lot together, scored goals, won matches and titles, and we are all very proud of this success. Getting this kind of support is the best thing any coach can get,” said Xavi. “I have everything I could want to do well, and I feel proud to continue with Al-Sadd for an additional two seasons.”

According to a statement released on Wednesday, Xavi will remain in charge of the Qatari side Al-Sadd until 2023. Xavi, who held the record for most Barca appearances before Lionel Messi broke it this season, also denied having a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Al-Sadd if there are Barca ties.

“This is incorrect,” the former Spain international added to the official club website. “I have a two-season contract with Al-Sadd, and I respect this contract – and I also respect the official negotiation methods between all parties.”

Since taking over Al-Sadd, Xavi has won a host of titles and guided his team to an unbeaten season in the Qatar Stars League in 2020-21. Al Sadd finished 13 points clear with 19 wins and three draws in their 22 games. They also notched 77 goals along the way and conceded only 14.
